Reportage Wedding Photography, all the rage in 2024

Over the last couple of years I have seen a large increase in the number of requests for ‘reportage wedding photography’ and would say it is undoubtedly a trend for 2024.

What is Reportage Photography?

The word reportage comes from the French verb ‘to report’ and effectively means covering a story in a factual journalistic style. The perfect part. What does this mean in terms of wedding photography? Well, what makes it one of my favourite styles is the unobtrusive approach, allowing you and your guests to enjoy their day without being forced into constricting poses. It often leads to the most enjoyable post wedding meetings too, as often many of the photos come as a surprise to the happy couple & they really enjoy seeing their friends and family enjoying themselves, naturally.

It also gives the wedding albums a real ‘timeline’ effect, as you see the events of the day pan out from start to finish. It has been argued, that this is the ‘lazy’ photographers approach, but it is actually quite the opposite. A good reportage Wedding Photographer has to do their research. They need to know the venue inside out, where they can and can’t take photos, lighting constraints and most of all, where to be to capture those timeless moments.

One of the great benefits of being a Hertfordshire Wedding photographer for over 25 years is that I do know these venues inside out. In fact, if you are still looking for a wedding venue I’ve made a handy guide to Wedding Venues in Hertfordshire.

If this sounds like the kind of thing you are interested in for your big day, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
