My name is John Paul ODonnell and I am a professional wedding photographer in Herts. I wanted to blog about my experiences as someone whose worked at The Hertfordshire Golf and Country Club and give my honest review of the wedding venue and setup.
Personally, I have been a member here for over 16 years. I have worked at The Hertfordshire Golf and Country Club on many occasions now and photographed over 50 weddings there. From the moment you pull in from the main road and drive in you see the beautiful mansion. It sits in the centre of the 18 hole golf course. You drive into the house through a set of old iron gates and pull round infront of the steps to the main entrance. If your looking for the wow factor then this has definitely got it. The building is breathtaking and is a busy golf club and gym.
Now lets get back to the weddings. The Mansion House is a lovely backdrop to shoot against and create some amazing shots. For me I love shooting outside here as there are many beautiful spots (these are shown in the images below). Inside has a couple of nice areas but these are usually for the wedding breakfast and wedding ceremony. The back terrace of the house is a real sun trap so your guests can enjoy the sun whilst having drinks. This overlooks the 1st and 9th fairways. These two fairways are really great to photograph in using the trees and high grass…you just have to be very careful. The lake on the 15th hole is amazing and gives you many opportunities for great photos.
